Celestial Mechanics A Survey Of The Status Of The Determination Of The General Perturbations Of The Minor Planets Armin Otto Leuschner 9781161748987 Books
I became acquainted with Leuschner via S. Herrick's Astrodynamics. Leuschner was an astronomy professor at UC, Berkeley, and was the teacher of Sam Herrick, who gives him a prominent place in his book. Specifically, he credits Leuschner with developing effective algorithms for determining orbital elements from optical tracking. This is what I expected to see in Leuschner's book ... but it was not to be.The book covers the discovery of the principal minor planets/asteroids, and the struggle to obtain accurate orbital elements. The material covering the discoveries is still of relevance. The orbital elements and ephemerides have, of course, been much, much improved since the publication of Leuschner. But perhaps the very difficulties themselves are still of interest.
To summarize: mainly of historical interst.
